Messi scored three goals when Barca beat Mallorca 5-2 in the first match after he won the sixth Golden Ball.
Barca soon took the lead in the match that took place at home. After the second successful pass from the start of goalkeeper Ter Stegen, Griezmann went down the tire over Manolo Reina.
With a good start, Barca played more with excitement. The attack and a number of host midfielders constantly have the opportunity to bombard Reina’s goal. In the 17th minute, Messi doubled the distance from nearly 25 m.
Mallorca can do nothing but some personal efforts of Ante Budimir. After the 22nd striker shortened the score with a touch of Lenglet changing direction, the visitors soon had to return with a defensive effort.
In the last five minutes of the first half, the Nou Camp seemed to burst because of beautiful goals. Messi continued to prove his talent with a long shot into the goal, and Suarez increased the score to 4-1 with a heel strike from nearly eight meters.
The second half wasn’t too different, except Reina made a series of saves. Mallorca removed another goal, also thanks to Budimir’s header from the edge of the city.
About 10 minutes before the game ended, Messi completed a hat-trick from Suarez’s cleanup line. This is his 35th hat-trick in La Liga and is a new record.
Thanks to the winning over Mallorca, Barca regained the lead of La Liga just hours after letting Real take the lead. The defending champion and second place team now have the same 34 points, but more than goal difference.
